New Horizons Film Festival Awards 2013: 13th Annual Winners

The winners of the 13th Annual New Horizons Film Festival Awards have been announced. The 2013 New Horizons Film Festival Awards are from “an international film festival held annually in July in Wrocław, Poland…It is one of the biggest and most popular film festivals in Poland. Since 2008 it is accredited by FIAPF with an “avant-garde” specialized competitive status. The event is organized by the Stowarzyszenie Nowe Horyzonty (New Horizons Association).”

The jury of the New Horizons film festival has named “Celestial Wives of the Meadow Mari” (pictured) by Russian helmer Alexey Fedorchenko the winner of its 13-film international competition July 28.

The Audience award went to “Floating Skyscrapers” from Polish helmer Tomasz Wasilewski. Gay coming out drama nabbed the East of the West award at the recent Karlovy Vary festival.

Another Polish film that deals with themes of homosexuality in this conservative country, “In the Name of” by Malgoska Szumowska, making its Polish preem, closed fest July 27. That film won the Teddy prize at the 2013 Berlinale.
